3 Ways To Deal With Pain In Your Neck

by Bilel Nissen

If you frequently get pain in your neck, here are a few things that you can do that will help get rid of the pain that you experience. Oftentimes, you can get a pain in your neck due to trauma like whiplash, and because of the overall strength of your neck muscles. Here are three things you can do at home to reduce the pain in your neck:

#1 Stretch When You Get Up

When you get up in the morning or after taking a nap, you should start your day with a stretch. Stretching can help reduce the amount of pain that you feel in your neck.

You can do simple stretches that require no equipment, such as tilting your head to the right and then tilting your head to the left and holding each for a little bit. Then, roll your shoulders backward about ten times and forward about ten times. Bring your head down to your chin and hold it, then tilt your head back and hold it.

These simple morning stretches will get your muscles ready for the day and will help work out the tension in your neck and upper back as soon as you get up.

#2 Watch The Exercises That You Do

Certain exercises can actually make the pain in your neck worse. Oftentimes, doing sit-ups, crunches, and push-ups but a lot of strain on your back when you do them the traditional way.

In order to exercise your core without straining your neck, do a yoga plank position where you lift your body up on your hands and feet, and hold it. Then, do side planks to strengthen your core.

These exercises will provide the same benefits as sit-ups and push-ups without further straining your neck.

#3 Learn To Sleep On Your Back

Finally, work on sleeping on your back. If you have always been a side or stomach sleeper, it can take some getting used to. Start by trying to fall asleep on your back. Even if you eventually roll over, the more time you spend on your back when you sleep, the less time that your neck will feel strained while you sleep and the more it will be able to relax.

Make sure as well that the pillow you are using provides your neck with the proper support that it needs.

Stretching when you wake up, being mindful of how your exercises impact your neck, and sleeping on your back can help you fight against neck-related pain.
